Werestore is a communinty-driven organization dedicated to empowering youth and marginalized communities in Sierra Leone. Our mission focuses on environmental sustainability, socaial justice and economic resilience. We work to restore and protect degraded lands and ecosystems, while promoting sustainable livelihoods and poverty eraditcation. Through advocacy, research, awareness and policies campaingnes, and grassroot initiatives. we hold miniing and extractive corporations accountable for their environmental and social impact through our legal empowerment program. By fostering inclusive development, we enable communities to reclaim their land, and achieve long-term environmental and economic well-being. Together, we are building where people can be in synergy.
We envision a society where mining should not be a factor for communities around to be affected by the ever-rising climate crises in the world, and to see that multinational corporations are held accountable to communities they operate.
We strive to ensure accountability by multinational corporations operating in Sierra Leone through advocacy, lobby, awareness and capacity building of affected communities, research and the restoration of lost lands and natural vegetation.
In 2022, we conducted a research to understand the numbers of community affected by mining operations in moyamba district, This research enables us to understand the felt needs of ten communities and build their capacity to accept more organic farming in a degraded area in order to renew the land fertility affected by Mining operations.
We implement a range of legal empowerment strategies to effectively tackle climate and environmental justice challenges stemming from mining activities in the communities we serve. One key approach is community legal education, where we organize workshops and training sessions to inform residents about their rights and relevant environmental laws
We have implemented agro ecological principles in the country (Sierra Leone) to ensure we achieve a sustainably active agricultural ecosystem. We focused on key principles like bio-monitoring where we explored some active ponds within the capital and moyamba district.
